About Me

Janelle grew up in the Midwest, filled with a wild imagination and a love of reading.  In 2005, she began actively pursuing her dream of editing comic books for a living.  Initially, this involved writing comic book reviews and covering panels at comic conventions for Newsarama.com.  Janelle was then hired as the assistant editor at the now-defunct Fangoria Comics, where she worked for a year until she was hired at DC Comics as an assistant editor.

In her time at DC Comics, Janelle worked in the Bat-group of books, editing everything from Batman and Detective Comics to Birds of Prey and Knight and Squire. She was soon promoted to associate editor.  In 2011, she departed DC Comics to work at Disney Publishing Worldwide in the global magazines and comics department as an editor. Beyond her work at DC and Disney, Janelle also worked as a journalist for sites like ComicsAlliance, The Mary Sue, Bitch Media, and Comic Book Resources. In 2015, Janelle founded the romance comics publishing company Rosy Press, which she then sold in late 2016 to another comic publisher called Emet Entertainment. Rosy Press primarily published the romance anthology Fresh Romance and featured the work of a variety of talented comics creators.

Janelle is currently not accepting new freelance assignments, as her work as a Content Editor for American Girl keeps her quite busy. Janelle’s passion for the written word and improving lives through media is evident in the work she does every day.

A lifelong scholar, Janelle holds a BA in English Language and Literature from Southern New Hampshire University and an MS in Publishing from Pace University.  Janelle received Pace’s 2012 Publishing Award for excellence in the study of publishing.  Janelle lives in Madison, Wisconsin with her lovely spouse and three adorable cats.
